Super Duper Tuesday

Happy Super Tuesday. I’m as excited as a school girl at the Valentine’s dance. I just can’t wait to glide on over to my designated polling place and select my dance partner. They are all lined up there on the electronic ballot, hopeful, shiny clean, big smiles on their faces, hoping to have wooed me with their policy suggestions, or, at the very least, their taste in suits. Today is the day that, symbolically, we get to say good bye ‘W’ and hello Obama or Clinton or McCain or Romney. Really. I can hardly find the sense to care who wins either party’s nomination, I’m just so damn ecstatic that it isn’t going to George Bush or anyone related to George Bush, that I’d dance with just about anybody today. Skinny legs. Warts and all. You bring it candidates.
But seriously, as a registered Democrat, I’ll be casting my vote for Obama today. I don’t think Hillary’s a bad choice. In fact she’s damn qualified, but she’s also a lightening rod, eliciting sparks of irrational hatred. She’s one of those unique examples of the paranormal, a human capable of generating charges strong enough to knock-out street lamps and electrical equipment. Her mere presence on Capitol Hill, in debate forums, on the television screens of America causes the compass needles of public opinion to gyrate wildly. For myriad reasons of elusive provenance, that woman is loathed. A great article on Hillification which is like vilification but worse, please see Stanley Fish’s article from the Sunday New York Times. His editorial begs the question, Why is Hillary so hated? And while he can’t quite put his finger on the reason, he certainly entertains with the rant, “If she answers questions aggressively, she is shrill. If she moderates her tone, she’s just play-acting. If she cries, she’s faking. If she doesn’t, she’s too masculine. If she dresses conservatively, she’s dowdy. If she doesn’t, she’s inappropriately provocative.” He has a point. She can’t win. This condemnation, I’m afraid, may be both literal and figurative. It looks like she’s doomed and so I’m rushing into the arms of Barack who I think has a chance against McCain should he inexplicably get the Republican nod avoiding Christian Conservative attempts to have him put to death as an apostate.
It’s a shame that today has broken all rainy and slushy and raw. The weather will affect voter turn out here in Massachusetts. You’d think we would be used to the sludge of winter by now but somehow, each day that Mother Nature throws a handful of spite and sleet our way, we New Englanders burrow further into our holes. So it’ll be interesting to see which candidate can boast of the bravest supporters. Will it be Hillary’s coven of evil spies that howl maliciously in the face of inclement weather or will Barack supporters prove to be more steely and resolved and water-proof?
(According to British paranormalist Hilary Evans, some people are upright human (electric) eels. Cases of electric people date back to 1786; the most famous is that of 14-year-old Angelique Cottin, whose presence caused copmass needles to gyrate wildly. To further investigate this phenomenon, Evans founded SLIDE, the Streetlamp Interference Data Exchange. ~The New Book of Lists, Really Unusual Medical Conditions. p. 122)

god, yes. i wanted to take today off just to celebrate, it’s like my superbowl and world series rolled into one. go team.
Please America, I’m begging (on behalf of the rest of the planet), put a Democrat in the White House this year!
God bless Stanley Fish. He explains some of the stranger things I’ve heard about Hillary. But jes you wait, They’ll be getting at Obama soon too. It’s the nature of things.
Elections - just like sports but with real consequences!
At this point, I’m with you about the whole “wicked witch is dead dance” celebrating the end of George’s reign. I like Barak and Hillary and even though I would feel far more sanguine about McCain than Bush, I really want the Republicans to re-think some of their fundamental assumptions (like whether they’ll continue to campaign in this country or whether they’ll just find a welcoming banana republic), something that will only happen if they get seriously thunked in the next election or two.
cce, i would have been seriously surprised had you and i backed different candidates.
i worry about clinton’s vindictiveness as well as her ability to do any sort of community building.
so for me it’s obama all the way.
unfortunately, i don’t live in a super tuesday state.
YAAY! I’m glad you’re excited.
Me, I’m still sticking my head in the sand. I don’t think campaigning should start till right about now. In Mauritania (saharan place I’ve been living in), it’s against the law to candidate till 3 weeks before the election. I love this. I refused to listen to/read any voting stuff before last month, and even that is too early in my opinion.
But since I’m registered independent and can’t vote in my state’s primary or caucus (I forget which it is), I can continue my ostrich imitation for at least another month or two
I like what Obama has to say, but he seems a bit wet behind the ears.
I plugging for Hillary. I believe she has the experience (and the balls) to get the job done.
Though I will miss my “no W” bumper sticker!
