Shredding oranges

While eating dinner with My Better Half last night, I casually mentioned last week’s Yahoo article that reports a SAHM’s worth at close to $138K annually. I gave it as flippant a mention as one who is currently waging a war with her spouse about feeling completely under appreciated and taken for granted can possibly muster. And his response was, “So if you could go back to work and make 138K you’d do it?”
And I responded, “Well, no. Because the point of the whole article is that people like me are already doing more than full-time work, work that requires constant energy and sacrifice, one, that if there was a god who gave a damn about such things, would fetch a significant salary.”
He merely shrugged and walked out of the kitchen.
As DH Lawrence said before me, “I got the blues thinking of the future, so I left off and made some marmalade. It’s amazing how it cheers one up to shred oranges and scrub the floor.”
Lawrence must have been busying himself with the literary version of making lemonade. Lemonade, marmalade, whatever. I’m so going to shred some sort of citrus in order to stave off hostility. Not sure whether I will drink the end product, slather it on toast or serve it to My Better Half with faint traces of arsenic.
Any suggestions?
